Weekend review

Both Minety teams are at playing this weekend, the 1st at Trowbridge whilst the 2nds are at home to Warminster, both with 3pm kick off times.

Tom Claxton and his team know that matches against Trowbridge over the years have never been easy for Minety.

On the 7th November 2015 Minety travelled to Trowbridge and won by 37 – 0 yet when the two teams met in Frebruary 2016, with Minety chasing the championship, its was Trowbridge who emerged 10-5 winners in a scrappy game in the mud. At the end of the season Minety finished 4th with 68 points whilst Trowbridge were 10th with just 15 points. The dropped points at home cost Minety a certain top three placing in the league that year.

The two teams didn’t compete against each other in 2016 / 7 but Trowbridge were back in Division 1 for 2017 /8 season.

Minety travelled to Trowbridge on the back of a run of unbeaten games yet were hammered 24 – 8. Later in the season Minety extracted revenge, beating Trowbridge 36-10 at Minety Fields. Come the end of the season Minety were again 4th placed in the league with 67 points whilst Trowbridge finished 11th with 28. Once again, the loss of league points at Trowbridge cost the village team dear. A win and a bonus point would have almost secured 3rd place!

So far this season Trowbridge have wins over Calne and Chippenham but have lost their last two matches, at home to league leaders Combe Down and away at Melksham. Minety lie in 4th place in the league whilst Trowbridge sit 7th.

Minety 2nds c ome up against Warminster at Minety Fields on Saturday. Steve Wilson’s team are 5th in Division 3 whilst their opponents sit two places above them, in 3rd place with 10 points from 3 games. Warminster lost their first game of the season against Amesbury but have registered two convincing wins over Melksham and Bath Saracens.

Match reports will be available on this web site on Sunday morning.
