Warminster concede

The 2018/9 season has come to an end at Minety with a bit of a whimper with the news that the much anticipated clash between Minety and Warminster has been called off after we recieved notification earlier this morning that Warminster were unable to fulfil the fixture due to a lack of available players.

The result, or lack of it, means that Minety finish the season with an 11 win, 11 loss record and presently sit in 6th place in the league. Mathematically, Trowbridge can overtake us if they take all of the points from their match at Calne.

The loss of the match is sad because we were hoping to recall some players who have not featured recently in the squad, and all chances of being able to introduce the 49th and 50th players into the 1st team this season have disappeared (Benny is so frustrated; he’s been polishing his boots all morning and was so looking forward to playing this afternoon – his last game was in the early 1830’s).

On a personal note, I’m also sad that the match is off this way because, after 4 years of writing match reports on Minety, this was to be my last one – someone else can have a go next season. After over 100 matches and well over 90,000 words (a lot of it drivel, as you know if you read them on this site), the pleasure of the Sunday morning write up and distribution will be someone elses.

If there are any budding journalists out there, please let me know. The Job Description for the Press post will be posted on this site next week with the election of a new press officer as part of the club’s elections at the end of May / start of June.
