Warminster firsts did not have a game so we faced a very different looking side from three weeks ago. They started strongly in the scorching heat and crashed over for an early try.For 10 minutes Minety were on the back foot before they started showing some belief in themselves. Flyhalf Andy Edwards crashed over for a try under the posts but missed a sitter of a conversion to leave the score level at five-all.Warminster came back strongly and the pace of their centres really showed as Minety were fielding 12 forwards, two halfbacks and a wing. They ran in a try which they converted to make it 12-5 at the half.Minety started the second half with real vigour. Dominant again in the scrums, they also started to put the Warminster threequarters under pressure. From an impressive scrum, number eight Kevin Holdway broke away for a try. Edwards then converted to level the scores once more at 12 all. With time running out, one of the Warminster centres broke through numerous tackles from tired Minety arms to cross the try line. Unselfishly but stupidly, he passed to the other centre who, whilst manoeuvring to touch down under the posts, was blindsided by Minety flanker James Stewart who forced the surprised fellow into the dead ball area.Minety cleared with a big hoof from their 22 and won the scrum from the resulting knock on. The ball moved from hand to hand before Edwards crashed in at the corner to seal defeat for the home side 12 -17. It was another fantastic team performance and a great send off for prop forward Matt Oliver, who has returned to Wales after an impressive start to the season. A big thanks to Welsh Ollie for his commitment over the past few seasons but at least we won’t be seeing any more drop goals from props and hopefully now we will all understand each other in the huddle!
