Minety marched into the final of the Dorset and Wilts Senior Vase with a fine 32-7 victory over their division 1 compatriots Warminster at Minety Fields on Saturday. The win sets up a mouthwatering final with Christchurch’s “Dorset Dockers” at a ground yet to be determined on Saturday 24th November. Wherever that match is to be staged, Minety will be taking a coach so keep an eye out on this site for details of the arrangements – those who came on the coach to the last final that Minety made in 2015 still talk about the experience with pride.
Casting our minds back to that heady day, Coach Andy Ward led his side out onto the field at Warminster to take on Lychett Minster from Dorset. In an incredibly tight match Garin Garland put Minety ahead with a first half penalty before Lychett Minster grabbed the lead with just 20 minutes left with a try. 7 – 3 down, and with the clock ticking, Minety launched wave after wave of attacks on the Minster line and it was captain Andrew Hibbard who sealed the win, and the Senior Vase, charging down an attemtped clearance kick and touching down for the winning try. Heady days.
