Supermarine 1st XV v Minety 1st XV

Saturday 8 October 2011

Dorset & Wilts Division 1 North

Bad day at the office for Minety

Supermarine 1st XV 72pts – Minety 1st XV 7pts

Supermarine put in an excellent all round performance to inflict a heavy defeat on a depleted Minety.

The home team started strongly, opening with a penalty goal and following up with a try.

Faster than their opponents, Supermarine soon created an easy overlap on the right flank. A deft inside pass set up another try and with only a quarter of an hour gone, Minety were already 13-nil adrift.

Things got worse for the visitors when centre Will Dyer was forced to retire with what looked like a broken ankle. Minety’s sole available replacement, Ashley Windle, came on but it wasn’t long before an injury caused him to leave the field too.

Putting together some phases of play, Minety began to look a little better, but Supermarine’s defence held firm and when they got the ball on halfway, a rapid break saw them run away for a try under the posts. A successful conversion made it 20-nil at the break.

As the visitors tired in the second half, the home team began to run away with the game. The final straw for Minety came when lock David Hazell, their best forward, had to go off with a dislocated collarbone. Supermarine ran in eight tries and the visitors’ only consolation was a patient series of phases that led to a try for lock Sam Miller.

Minety will hope to regroup as they travel to Poole for a cup game this Saturday.
