Saturday proved to be a strange old day for Minety RFC.
The firsts, away against Oldfield Old Boys, demonstrated the ability to score four tries on the trot, but even that was not enough to win them a game which they had already lost thanks to a poor first half.
The seconds, meanwhile, kicked away a lot of possession, failed to make critical passes and dropped any ball which was passed in a frustrating and bad tempered fixture at home against Chippenham thirds. The visitors were competent with the ball in hand but ill disciplined and fractious without it.

Positives from the day?
The firsts have shown that they know how to play as a team when they put their minds to it. Max Sparrow put in a brilliant individual performance and club captain Craig Smith returned at prop for 20 minutes, his first time back on the field for some four months. And, credit where credit’s due, the second team pack were pretty good.
(Oh yes, and James Stuart wanted to see his name in print. There you go, James.)
This Saturday, 13 March 2010, the firsts are away against North Dorset while the seconds travel away to Pewsey Vale. Kick-offs are probably at 2.30 pm.
