Minety 1st XV only managed a losing bonus point from their 26-24 loss at Trowbridge and that result cost them dear in terms of league placings. A win would have seen them in joint 3rd place but the loss pushes them down into 6th in a hotly contested top half of the table.
Combe Down kept up their 100% winning record with a convincing win over Calne, who Minety face in two weeks time, but the surprise result was Avonvale’s loss to Melksham. Melksham climb above Minety in the table whilst Avonvale, who have been so strong this season, slip down three places to 5th. Minety face Avonvale at Minety Fields this coming Saturday.
Elsewhere, Pewsey, suffering from a long injury list, went down to fellow strugglers Chippenham while second placed Warminster kept up the pressure at the top with a win at Sutton Benger and 3rd placed Royal Wootton Bassett defeated a Supermarine team stuck at the foot of the table.
Minety 2nd XV’s inability to put out a team at home to Warminster has cost the village team dear. Steve Wilson’s team now find themselves 2nd from bottom of the league with just one point to their name from 4 games.
Elsewhere, league newcomers Amesbury kept up their impressive run with a big win at Chippenham while second placed Combe Down struggled to overcome a dogged Swindon team. Melksham easily defeated basement club Supermarine while the match of the day looks to have been at 5th placed Bradford on Avon who scraped past 6th placed Bath Saracens by just 2 points in a 78 points match.
