Results from the weekend

Minety’s pitches once again proved a stumblingly block as the season enters April.  With both matches called off due to waterlogged surfaces, the Minety players were forced to sit and watch how other teams in Dorset and Wilts 1 and 3 got on.  Here’s a round up of the action.

With the battle for 4th place hotting up Minety must have hoped that top of the league Bradford would be too much for 4th placed Warminster, who started the day on equal league points with Minety.  Sadly for the village side, Warminster really stepped up to the plate to inflict Bradford’s first home defeat of the season and only their second all campaign.  The bonus point victory now puts Warminster 5 points clear of Minety and with a better points aggregate.

Elsewhere, 2nd placed Combe Down overcame third placed Avonvale to close the gap on Bradford at the top of the table.  Pewsey, who have been improving after a poor start to the season unexpectedly lost to Melksham, so Minety maintain their 14 point cushion over the 6th placed team.

Elsewhere, a resurgent Wootton Bassett followed up their narrow defeat to Bradford last week with a comprehensive win over Chippenham while Supermarine overcame an unpredictable Trowbridge side.

Minety 2nd XV’s match against top of the table Corsham was called off early on Saturday morning.

Elsewhere, Bradford recorded an away walk over over Chippenham to bring themselves to within a point of 7th placed Minety while Trowbridge crushed Supermarine to keep up the pressure on top of the table Corsham.

The revised fixtures up to the end of the season for the two Minety teams are as follows:

1st XV:  Saturday 14th April away at Melksham; Saturday 21st April home to Pewsey Vale; Wednesday 25th April home to Swindon II; and Saturday 28th April away at Avonvale.

2nd XV: Saturday 14th April away at Warminster; Saturday 21st April away at Bath Saracens; and Wednesday 25th April home to Corsham.
