Minety’s win at Bassett was one of the stand out results from this weekend’s action in Dorset and Wilts Division 1.
Elsewhere, newly promoted Calne, who Minety face next in the cup, were given a beating by last year’s success side Avonvale, who finished 3rd in the table, just above Minety. Trowbridge’s unbeaten start to the season continued with a fine win nat Chippenham whilst Combe Down handed out a hiding to the other newly promoted club Sutton Benger. Given that Bassett defeated Melksham in the first round of matches, Melksham’s win at Supermarine suggests that the latter may be in for a struggle again this season.
In Divsion 3 Minety slipped to a narrow 33 – 24 loss at Chippenham in what was a hard fought and even contest.
Elsewhere, Bath Saracens put down a marker for their season with a big win over Swindon III whilst newly promoted Amesbury enjoyed a good away win at Warminster.
