Plenty of interesting action in Dorset and Wilts Division 1 North at the weekend.
Other than Minety’s fine 13-8 victory over a large and powerful Chippenham team, who recently had put 111 points on Swindon, there were some other stand out performances. In the clash between the two unbeaten teams in the league this season, Bradford on Avon came out on top, 22-7 at Combe Down while 3rd placed Warminster slipped to a surprise 34-15 at a resurgent Melksham. Warminster’s slip up also cost them 3rd place in the league, with newly promoted Avonvale jumping above them with a solid 32-8 win at Supermarine.
Elsewhere, Pewsey Vale’s 95-3 thumping of Swindon was the second highest score of the season (Chippenham put 111 points over the same opposition earlier in the campaign). Bassett’s 38-10 win over Trowbridge, who defeated Minety last time out, takes them clear of the bottom of the table.
So Bradford find themselves 5 points clear at the top of the table. In addition to a flawless win record, Bradford have also only missed out on Try bonus points against two teams – Combe Down on Saturday and Minety earlier in the season.
The top 6 teams all have positive “Points For / Points Against” records, although 8th placed Pewsey Vale are back to 0 after their 93 differential on Saturday.
In the next round of fixtures, to be played on Saturday 9th December, Bradford will travel to 4th placed Warminster while 2nd placed Combe Down travel to 3rd placed Avonvale. 5th placed Minety travel to the bottom club Swindon before returning to Minety Fields for the final match before the Christmas break on 16th December against Melksham.
