Minety’s win at bottom club Swindon by 41-3 helped close the gap slightly on the top four teams in the division but also maintained the gap back to 6th placed Chippenham and the fast improving Pewsey Vale.
The performance of the weekend came at Avonvale, who became only the second team to take points away from the league leaders, Combe Down. On a weekend where the top four teams played each other, Warminster did themselves a favour by inflicting Bradford’s first loss of the season. The results close things up at the top and have allowed Minety a chance to make up a little ground on the teams above. The recent loss at Trowbridge could come back to haunt Tom Claxton’s team – the points left on the pitch there would have brought the 1st XV right up onto the shirttails of the leading pack.
Pewsey’s season is improving quickly. Club chairman Steve Park recently told us that a new coaching regime and the return of a nunber of players has boosted their confidence and they are looking to a much stronger second half of the season.
