Minety’s excellent 38-0 win over Frome brought much relief to the team and moves them up to 8th place in a league of 12, 2 of which are likely to be relegated at the end of the season.
Elsewhere, Avonvale have wrapped up promotion with a 48-12 defeat of Warminster, a bonus point win taking them out of reach of third placed Royal Wootton Bassett (Avonvale would have to lose all of their four remaining fixtures while Bassett would have to win each of theirs with a bonus point and then overcome a 120 match point deficit).
Melksham kept up their promotion hopes with a 65-0 drubbing of Chippenham, a result which maintains Melksham’s second place in the league but pushes Chippenham down into the relegation zone in 11th place.
In form Marlborough kept up their impressive recent run of form by inflicting a heavy 58-0 defeat away at already relegated Bradford.
Who knows what will happen next in the league? If, and this seems increasingly unlikely, the league continues, then Minety appear to have the easiest run in with a visit to relegated Bradford next Saturday followed by a home match with 10th placed Calne, an away fixture (under lights on a Friday night) at 11th placed Chippenham and a season ending homke fixture against 7th placed Trowbridge.
