All in all, it was a good day for Minety RFC on Saturday.
Having watched England and Wales win through to the semi finals of the World Cup, it was a double pleasure to witness Mineyty 1st XV defeat Royal Wootton Bassett in Division 1 and hear of the notable 2nd XV away victory at Swindon in Division 3.
If that wasn’t enough, a group of Minety players and supporters clubbed togaether at the last moment to enter the Charlton Village Quiz evening.
Showing a remarkable sporting knowledge, an adequate grasp of the English language, a passable knowledge of France and French customs and good showings on rounds dealing with Music and Wiltshire the team chose to play their “Joker” (double scoring) on a round where they had to identify 10 different types of chocolate. With 10 points plus a bonus available, the Minety team registered a cracking 22 out of 22 and, to the amazement of all present, won the quiz by half a point.
