Tuesday 4th July saw the end of the annual summer touch rugby at Minety as senior players look forward to pre-season training. It has been an enjoyable couple of months, with many of Minety’s under 16 players testing the pace of their elders, looking to make a big impact in the upcoming season as some step up to play senior rugby. This year saw a great increase in attendance, often running 3 teams with intense competition and some fantastic tries. Notable moments were prop Colin French finding his side step; second’s captain Matthew Stone dropping the ball when swan diving and veteran fly half Adam Watts running his try from an interception past all the young flyers.
The stand out performer and recipient of the ‘Player of the Summer’ trophy, beautifully crafted (see above) by Duncan Simpson) was Minety junior, Aden Vaughan.
Co-Organiser Duncan Simpson commented: “Young Aden is always full of energy in attack and defence, he took all coaching advice on board and played the tactics of the game very well, making a great contribution to his team. Already a smart and skilful player I look forward to seeing his development at the club.”
A special thanks to Huw Jones for organising and refereeing.
