Impressive Minety hold off Swindon

Swindon RFC 2nd XV 17pts – Minety RFC 1st XV 21pts

A bleak afternoon at Swindon RFC, where the home side’s 2nd XV entertained Minety RFC, finished with a hard fought victory for the visitors.

Swindon 2nds flew out of the blocks scoring a converted try in te first minute. They increase their lead to 12 – 0 on the 20 minutes mark when they scored their second try. By then the home side had established dominance in the set scrum and rucks. This provided them with a solid platform to launch wave after wave of attacking options. Minety hanging on by the their finger nails at times.

A forced change of personnel changed the game for Minety. No 8 Pete Roberts was forced off with a head injury and Jack Ward stepped up from outside centre.  Minety began to disrupt the Swindon patterns, turnovers ensued and Minety capitalised.

Just before half time , following a quick Minety ruck, the ball was moved to outside half Elis Garland who put James Taylor into the corner for a try. Ash Windle adding the conversion to make it 12 – 7 at the break time.

From the restart Minety struck again. A poor Swindon clearance kick was fielded by Minety full back Robin Greenway 40m out. He set off on a jinking run that saw him evade numerous Swindon tacklers to score a brilliant try. Windle’s conversion put the visitors into the lead for the first time.

MInety’s third try came involved Garland twice and inside centre Milo Hartley, before skipper Steve Brown finished off a sweeping move. Windle adding the extras for a 12 – 21 lead with 30 minutes to go.

Swindon piled on the pressure and their endeavours were rewarded with an unconverted try with 10 minutes to go. Minety regrouped and had several chances to score before the final whistle but the home side kept them out. Final score 17 – 21
