Just the one team Minety team in action this week, Andrew Hibbard’s 1st XV face up to very much in form Melksham at Minety Fields with a 2.30pm kick off on Saturday.
It’s the first time that the 1st XV have played at home since the 11th January when they saw off Warminster by 32-15 and the team will be in confident mood after the remarkable comeback last week at high flying Royal Wootton Bassett, where three tries in the last 10 minutes not only secured a valuable away win but also claimed a 4 try bonus point.
Of course, as with all Minety fixtures, so much is dependent upon who is available. Kieran James will almost certainly be missing, possibly for some time, after the young fly half picked up a nasty shoulder injury last week, and we hope that Hugo Beanland and Colin French are fit after they took heavy knocks at Bassett.
In the away fixture back on 28th September, Melksham saw off Minety 20 – 5 so the village side will be eager to gain revenge on a Melksham side sitting in 2nd place in the league with 12 wins from their 14 league encounters this season.
A win for Minety would give them a little breathing space as they attempt to clamber free from the threat of relegation at the wrong end of the table. With a match in hand over all of the other teams at the nether end of D&W1N, Minety are presently in 9th place. A win, with or without any bonus points, would take them into 8th place, ahead of Trowbridge and 5 points clear of 11th placed Marlborough. Bradford on Avon are firmly stuck to the bottom of the table with just 1 win and only 8 points with 7 matches to go.
In other news, Andrew O’Dell confirms that the Clubhouse will be showing the “6 Nations” games on Saturday with Ireland vs Wales at 14.15 then, after the 1st’s game vs Melksham at Minety, the Scotland vs England game at 16.45.
Bacon Rolls will be available prior to kick off from 13.30 as Poppy & Emilia are raising funds to help towards their trip to Borneo in 2021. They will also be available after the match during the Six Nations game.
Fans of MTV (if there are any) will be relived to know that the extreme technical issues that prevented the coverage of the Bassett game last week have been resolved – we’ve found the camera tripod!
