Minety 45 - Bradford on Avon 10

Playing on Chippenham’s all weather pitch on Friday night, Minety built upon the confidence they gained on the all weather surface in their cup defeat of Warminster to comprehensively defeat Bradford on Avon on Friday night under the floodlights by 41 – 10.

Minety began strongly in a match played in blustery conditions. Jack ward seized upon a drive by the Minety forwards to crash over for a try as early as the 3rd minute wide out on the right.

Garin Garland, playing at fly half, increased the lead in the 21st minute when Bradford forwards were caught offside and penalised.

Bradford struck back in the 27th minute when their inside centre burst throught the Minety defences to touch down on the right but Minety restored their advantage in the 36th minute when Chris Rule raced over from 30 metres out to touch down close to the posts, Garland converting the try and sending Minety in at half time 15-5 up.

The second half was just 2 minutes old when scrum half Sam Hughes spotted a gap in the Bradford defence to score Minety’s 3rd try and just 6 minutes later Rule was on hand after a fine move cross field involving forwards and backs to score his second try of the evening, Garland converting the try and pushing Minety into a 27-5 lead.

In the 55th minute Dave Cooke opened his season’s scoring account, latching on to a pass from full back Duncan Simpson and running in from 35 yards to score under the posts, Garland again converting.

Minety’s 6th try came in the 60th minute when Jack Ward seized upon a ball in his own half, spotted a gap in the Bradford defence and raced over 50 metres to touch down beneath the posts. Garland’s conversion saw Minety 45-5 up.

Bradford scored a consolation second try late on with a pushover from their large and heavy pack as Minety began to tire.

The win lifts Minety off the bottom of the table but they will be looking for wins against Calne and Chippenham before the mid season break if they are to make up for ground lost in the first half of the season.

Minety’s next match is a road trip to Lytchett Minster in Dorset in the semi final of the Dorset and Wilts Vase. A coach is being planned – look out here for details. We hope to get as many supporters down to Lytchett on a day out as possible.

Team against Bradford: Colin French, Jay Thompson, Mark Glew, Ben Scott, Matt Stone, Matt Chisholm, Kieran Tillotson, Andrew Hibbard (c), Sam Hughes, Garin Garland, Chris Rule, Jack Ward, Ben Langridge, Dave Cooke, Duncan Simpson, Morgan Aubrey, Jack Gillet

Minety 2nd XV’s match against Bradford on Avon, due to be played at Minety, was called off by Bradford, the points being awarded to Minety.
