Minety 2nd XV v Trowbridge 3rd XV

Saturday 28 September 2013

Dorset & Wilts Division 3

Trowbridge finish the stronger

Minety 2nd XV 10pts – Trowbridge 3rd XV 19pts

Trowbridge came back strongly in the final half hour to overhaul a tiring Minety seconds.

Seizing early turnover ball and kicking ahead, Trowbridge were soon attacking up the slope. Minety gathered but, caught in possession, gave away the ball once again and the visitors lost no time in running in the first try of the game.

Minety responded with a will, attacking from the restart and camping in their opponents’ 22. Taking ball from an attacking scrum, Dellam Murray darted over the line to level the scores. Andy Edwards then kicked the conversion to give the home team a narrow 7-5 lead at the break.

Playing down the slope in the second half, Trowbridge besieged Minety’s line but for a while were held out by the home side’s solid tackling in defence.

An Edwards drop goal extended Minety’s lead to 10-5, but as the home team, who had already used their one replacement, began to tire, the visitors brought on fresh troops and renewed the assault.

Attacking down the centre of the field, Trowbridge drew ahead with a converted try and then repeated the feat in the closing stages to make it 10-19 at the death.
