Minety 2nd XV v Supermarine 2nd XV

Saturday 9 April 2011 Dorset & Wilts Division 3 North

Supermarine snatch dramatic win

Minety 2nd XV 20 pts – Supermarine 2nd XV 24 pts

Minety were well set to win this closely contested second team fixture until a late rally by Supermarine snatched victory away.Luke Radcliffe appeared to have opened the scoring for Minety but was adjudged to have knocked on. Instead, it was Supermarine who scored the first try before the hosts got under way with a penalty from Tim Vaughan.

Undeterred by his earlier set back, Radcliffe ran in a try to secure the lead for Minety, and Vaughan’s successful goal kick made it 10-5 at the break.

Another Radcliffe try early in the second half put the home side 15-5 ahead, but disaster struck when Minety centre Milo Hartley was yellow carded mid-way through the half. Exploiting the guaranteed overlap, Supermarine retook the lead with two well-worked tries from their left winger and one conversion from two attempts.

Back on the field, Hartley lost no time in making amends, romping through the Supermarine defence for a try from 25 metres out.

That made it 20-17, but Supermarine finished the stronger, winning ball against the head and keeping possession through several phases before bundling over for the winning try and a conversion in off the upright.

This Saturday, Minety seconds play their final game of the season away against Devizes thirds.
