A good afternoon for rugby
Minety 2nd XV 57 pts – Pewsey Vale 2nd XV 17 pts
Minety seconds had another prolific afternoon, running in nine tries against the Pewsey Vale second team. Pewsey played their part, too, notching up three tries of their own.
Short-handed but determined to have a game of rugby, Pewsey made the journey to Minety with only eleven men. Thanks to reinforcements from the Academy side, their hosts had plenty of players available and lent them sufficient numbers to field a full team. Minety Academy’s Alex Hawkins and John Shepherd played half a game for each side, and Shepherd was later awarded Man of the Match for his contribution.
The opening try of the afternoon came from Minety skipper Steve Murray, sprinting in from his favourite distance: one metre from the line! The other scorers for Minety were Milo Hartley, who scored no fewer than four tries, Ralph Wells, and Academy recruit Ashley Windle. Gareth Peirce ran in a brace of tries and also kicked six conversions.
Pewsey’s try scorers were James De Pas, Guy Ellis and Reese Bryant.
This Saturday, Minety seconds travel to take on Melksham thirds.
