Minety 2nd XV v Midsomer Norton 4th XV

Saturday 25 February 2012

A physical encounter

Dorset & Wilts Division 3 North

Minety 2nd XV 29pts – Midsomer Norton 4th XV 0pts

The Minety pack proved too strong for visitors Midsomer Norton in a bruising physical encounter.

Playing downhill in the first half, Minety opened their account with a penalty goal from flyhalf Andy Edwards.

Under mounting pressure, Midsomer Norton conceded a penalty five metres out. A quick tap from scrumhalf Andy Brown released prop Toby Edmonds to crash over and score, and Edwards’ conversion made it 10-nil.

With the home pack dominant in the set piece, Midsomer Norton found themselves being scrummaged back over their own line. They collapsed to halt Minety’s advance, but the referee awarded a penalty try and Edwards again had no problem adding the conversion.

When the visiting fullback dropped a kick just in front of his own try line, Minety winger Luke Smith pounced on the ball to claim his team’s third try.

A try from flanker Jake Norman after good work by lock Ralph Wells and prop Steve Murray completed the half, with Edwards’ again kicking the goal to make it 29-nil.

The second half was scoreless. Midsomer Norton came back strongly, taking advantage of the slope, but Minety repeatedly frustrated their efforts with strong tackling and good positional kicking.
