Radcliffe to the rescue
Minety 2nd XV 21 pts – Melksham 3rd XV 19 pts
A late try by centre Luke Radcliffe saved Minety’s bacon after a second-half rally by Melksham seconds seemed to have won them the game.
Playing down the hill, Minety dominated the first half. Two tries from Radcliffe and a penalty by flyhalf Andy Edwards gave them a comfortable 13-nil lead at the interval.
The turn-round at half-time brought a turn round in fortunes, however, as Melksham streamed down the slope and back into the game. While Minety’s only addition came from another Edwards penalty goal, a try by Ben Brown and a brace from flyhalf Stuart Moore, who also kicked two conversions, eventually gave the visitors a tally of 19 points, three ahead of their hosts.
The game was almost spent when Radcliffe finally latched onto the ball and galloped up the slope to complete his hat-trick of tries and secure another win for Minety.
