Minety get back on track
Minety 2nd XV 13pts – Devizes 3rd XV 0pts
Reinforced by their university students, home for the vacation, Minety seconds saw off a strong challenge from Devizes.
Minety started strongly, playing down the slope. Awarded an early five metre scrum, the home pack drove their opponents back and when the ball popped out, scrumhalf Dellam Murray pounced on it to claim the opening score.
Devizes defended well, however, and after a bruising 40 minutes, the score remained 5-nil at half-time.
Led by a robust pack and steered by an experienced flyhalf, the visitors took full advantage of the slope after the break, but Minety tackled resolutely and denied them a score.
Finally breaking out of their half, the home side began to exert pressure of their own. Tim Vaughan slotted a penalty goal and then, with time running out, Alex Caddick chipped ahead, gathered his own kick and ran in a final try to clinch the match for Minety.
Minety’s man of the match was Aaron Lightbody, who put in crunching tackles and made a series of incisive runs.
