The physio steps in
Minety 2nd XV 56pts – Calne 2nd XV 7pts
Minety seconds continued their good run of form with a seasonal demolition of their counterparts from Calne.
The lure of Christmas shopping radically reduced the number of second team players available to both clubs, but the game went amicably ahead as an evenly matched 14-a-side contest after Minety fulfilled their quota by press-ganging the team physio Ben Wallace to join them on the pitch.
Calne scored a try coming down the hill in the first half, but the rest of the game belonged to Minety, who ran in a total of 10 tries, five in each half.
The indomitable Tom Windle scored no fewer than five tries, while Tom Burgess landed a brace. There were tries apiece for Milo Hartley and Mark Holdsworth, and for James Stuart, who also kicked one of Minety’s three conversions.
Physio Wallace proved an excellent place kicker and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet with two long-range efforts from the touchline.
