Minety 2nd XV v Bath Saracens

Saturday 14 November 2009

Dorset & Wilts Division 2 North

Storming performance from the Seconds

Minety 2nd XV 22pts – Bath Saracens 0pts

Adapting well to the atrocious conditions, Minety seconds comprehensively beat visitors Bath Saracens, keeping a clean sheet for the first time this season.

Playing into the wind and up the steep slope at the Nigel Bishop Memorial Ground, Minety faced a tough task in the first half. A rock solid defence kept the visitors out, however, and thanks to a try from flyhalf James Tweedale, Minety reached the break five points ahead.

Kicking sensibly for territory, Minety dominated the second half.

Following an attacking five metre scrum, inside centre Pete Thornton burst onto the ball at great pace and on an angle that completely wrong-footed the defence. Fullback Andy Edwards added the conversion to his well worked try and then kicked a penalty goal when Saracens subsequently infringed.

The visitors showed no lack of determination, but Minety’s no-nonsense

tackling continually thwarted their efforts to run possession. And when winger Ben Scott was given the ball on Saracens’ 22, he wriggled and jinked through two tackles before landing his team’s third try. Edwards pumped over the conversion to bring Minety’s tally to 22 points.

Bath Saracens threw everything into a last ditch attempt to get some a try but Minety held their nerve, turned over the ball and cleared their lines.

This Saturday, Minety seconds are due to travel to Weymouth to contest the semi-final of the Dorset and Wilts 2nd XV Shield.
