In memoriam: Dick Meakin

It is with great sorrow that we bring you the news that Dick Meakin, co-founder, former President, and long-term friend and supporter of Minety RFC, has died.

Dick supplied the green and purple paint from his shed that determined the club’s famous colours and his creative and artistic hands were also responsible for the club’s first heated bath and the club crest of the white horse on wheels.

Simply put, if  it wasn’t for Dick Meakin, there would be no Minety RFC for us all to have enjoyed and continue to enjoy for many years.

Dick’s funeral is on Tuesday the 24th of June at St Leonard’s Church, Minety, at 2.30pm, followed by drinks and memories at the Vale of the White Horse Inn. Daughter Carolyn states there is no particular dress code, but it would seem fitting that green and purple should feature.
