Dreamers Hold on for Tight Win

The Dreamers had a a tough clash against Devizes III. Both teams being evenly matched, one using youth and the other experience. Minety 2nds fielded the

young side that included current and ex academy players. Playing downhill Minety started scoring with in the first five minutes by Captain Ben Scott crashing over the line after a great run by centre Tom Burgess and wing Dale Langdown. Tom McAllister (playing his first game for the Dreamers) converted to make the score 7-0. Devizes battled back up the hill to get themselves onto the board but unfortunately for them they did not get the kick to level the scores. Minety answered with Tom McAllister touching down for his debut Try, but he was unable to convert. With an early injury Minety brought on Tim Vaughn who combined well Tom McAllister to assist Dale Langdon for his try, with another unsuccessful conversion the score stood at 17-5 at half time.

Minety had a large squad so half time saw several substitutions for players on the bench giving them a chance to rest some of the first half players.

Devizes mounted a comeback coming down the hill making it hard work for the Minety forwards, adding even more pressure with the Devizes number 10 making a good kick to touch. With a well drilled maul off the lineout they rumbled over the line to bring the score to 17-10 followed soon after another try and with a successful conversion brought the scores level to 17 – 17.

With Minety sustaining further injuries to their front row they were forced to go uncontested. Despite this the Dreamers got off a good chase on the restart putting the pressure back onto Devizes. With the ball in hand Minety went wide across the pitch followed by great hands from the backs allowing Matt Stone to go over in the corner, with a successful kick making the score 24-17 with 9 mins to go.

With Minety working hard in defence they were unable to soak up the pressure from Devizes attack and with time almost up Devizes got over the line. However feeling the effort of the last few minutes they were unable to convert leaving the score 24-22 on the last blast of the final whistle.
