Dorset & Wilts Division 3 North
Draw close
Calne 2nd XV 12 pts – Minety 2nd XV 12 pts
With both sides giving it their all, the Calne and Minety second teams slugged it out head-to-head and toe-to-toe in a match that ended as an honourable 12-all draw.
Bolstered by new recruits and players returned to fitness, Calne put on a strong display and scored first, thanks to a surging run from their big number eight.
Travelling with a full squad of 18 players, Minety fought back and it was centre Luke Radcliffe who soon evened the score. Bursting through the defence, he ran in a try to celebrate his first game in the side after injury.
It was five-all at half-time and the second half was equally close. The home team added a converted try and so did Minety. Flyhalf Dale Hicks ran in the try for the visitors, with Radcliffe kicking the goal.
Another score from either side would have settled the matter but Calne missed a penalty attempt while Minety had an apparent try disallowed.
The draw cost Minety their lead in Dorset & Wilts Division 3 North. Behind Westbury seconds on points difference, they have the chance to regain top spot this Saturday as they welcome the league leaders to Minety Playing Fields.
